I used to write simple and to-the-point Java tutorials here on this blog. However, as LLMs have taken over, it seems like there’s no point in doing so anymore.

That doesn’t mean I’ll stop writing blog posts. On the contrary, I plan to revamp this personal website to write about things I’m interested in outside work.

I grew up with a completely different internet, and even though everything is (a lot!) faster and more widespread nowadays, the internet itself feels a lot worse.

People used to call the internet a huge decentralized network. To be honest, I never truly believed that, but the internet has become even more centralized since then.

Nowadays, it’s almost impossible to do anything on the internet without our packets traveling through half a dozen “cloud” providers.

As data storage became cheaper (at least until the “AI” boom), every node/company on the path of our packets started squeezing out every ounce of data it could. To make matters worse, the companies operating these nodes aren’t even able to properly secure this data, and much of it gets leaked sooner rather than later.

Here’s the plan moving forward

Topics will include:

• Off-internet networks
• Peer-to-peer networks (P2P)
• Retro technology
• Privacy
• Security
• Rants about the current state of things
• And anything else that piques my interest

Also, I plan to publish the same content on NomadNet (Reticulum Network), the Tor network, and I2P. I might even create a version that works in older browsers (Netscape 3.04 would be nice) but I’m not sure about that yet.

For some retro tech content, you can check out my Napster server project, as well as Antiga.Net. Antiga.Net mostly focuses on the Brazilian internet of the ’90s and early 2000s, but it also offers services like ICQ and an IRC server.
